Bernetta (Cazier) Hurst

September 26, 1936 ~ May 17, 2020 (age 83)

Obituary

Bernetta Hurst, 83, of Mapleton passed away Sunday, May 17, 2020. She was born September 26, 1936 in Salina, Utah to Clyde Brown Cazier and Delna Hatch Cazier. When she was 5 her family moved from Koosharem to Mapleton where she has resided since.

She married her sweetheart, Robert Dean Hurst (Bob), on March 30, 1954, in the Manti LDS Temple. He preceded her in death on February 20, 1993. Bob was the love and joy of Bernetta's life. They had five daughters, Sherra Lyn, Marlene, Rozlin, Michell, and Lynette.

The things that brought Bernetta the most joy were spending time with Bob and their family. Bernetta and Bob were always together whenever possible. They had a deep love for each other that never faded with Bob's passing. They had a lot of fun gardening, shopping, cooking, preparing for holidays, and creating a loving home for their girls. Bernetta taught her girls in 4-H, held various positions in the LDS primary, young women’s and the relief society. She was always willing to serve where needed.

Bernetta was an excellent cook and her family always looked forward to suppertime and Sunday dinners. Her daughters still reminisce about many of the delicious dishes she'd prepare. Her daughters also remember the beautiful clothes she sewed for them as they were growing up, a skill that she passed down to all of them. A special memory for them is the beautiful wedding dress she made for each of them. Bernetta loved her grandkids. They all looked forward to their visits, playing on the ditch bank and in the fields, and the breakfasts of waffles and ice cream.

Bob's death was very hard for Bernetta, but with the help from family and friends she moved forward and thrived for many more years. She made wonderful lifelong friends through her "Friends Forever Club". She loved going shopping with her sisters, reading, following BYU sports, and taking many fun trips to Disneyland with her family. She was so proud of working for Dr. Linton in Payson, a job she really loved, and wherein made many more good friends.

Bernetta was the heart that brought her family together. She taught all of them through lessons and example how to form good values and live good lives. Her family is so thankful to her and will miss her dearly.

Bernetta is survived by four of her daughters: Sherra Lyn Westover, Marlene (Dean) Vest, Rozlin (Chris) Mecham, and Lynette Schultz; son-in-law Michael Osborn; 17 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren. Siblings: Aldeen Palfreyman, Clyde (Cheryl) Cazier, Ranee (Paul) Thorpe. Sisters-in-law: JoAn Ertel, Margene (Roger) Farnworth; and brothers-in-law: Fred (Carol) Hurst, Ken (Gary) Hurst, Rodney Burt.

She was preceded in death by her husband Bob, daughter Michell, two grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Sisters-in-law: Coleen Larsen, Yvonne Burt, and Karen Hurst; brothers in law: Clark Palfreyman and Bill Ertel.
