David John Moyle

May 20, 1945 ~ April 20, 2021 (age 75)

Obituary

David John Moyle, 75, of Springville, passed away Tuesday night, April 20, 2021.  He was born May 20, 1945, in American Fork to Myron Rowe and Reva Wagstaff Moyle.  He had a happy childhood in a good neighborhood with lots of friends. He served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the British South Mission. On December 18, 1969, he married Ann Campbell in the Salt Lake City Temple.

He graduated from BYU with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education. He began teaching in Provo School District, teaching 6th grade at Maeser Elementary, then to Timpanogos and Wasatch Elementary schools.  He went on to earn a Masters in Educational Education from BYU and became a school principal at Provost Elementary and then Edgemont Elementary. Throughout many of those years, he also loved the experience of Provo School District’s Big Springs Outdoor Education Camp.

His family eventually included 6 children, all of whom were girls but 5. He was usually found serving in the Young Mens organization and served as Scoutmaster for many years. He was bishop of the Kolob 2nd Ward from 1991 to 1998.  A few years after retirement, he and Ann served a mission to the Washington DC Temple, a blessed and privileged year and a half, making a host of new friends and enjoying temple experience.

David preferred humans to computers, still had a flip phone, believed you could never have too many friends, and never wanted a visit with them to end. He met former students almost everywhere he went and usually, after a minute’s reflection, remembered their names.  He liked all things John Wayne, read the entire Louis L’Amour catalog, and believed you could never have too much bacon. He loved to celebrate birthdays and never wanted his own to be overlooked. He enjoyed the association of everyone but especially that of nieces and nephews and thought grandchildren were among life’s greatest blessings.

David is survived by his wife, Ann, his six children: Pamela Moyle of Bountiful, UT; Scott (Dana Kay) Moyle of Clifton, ID, Michael (Anna) Moyle of Cedar City, UT; Kent (Jenn) Moyle of Bountiful; Eric (Carrie) of Highland UT; Brian (Courtney) Moyle of Universal City, TX, 8 granddaughters and 8 grandsons, and his beloved sister Annette Scott. His parents and two brothers, Richard and J, preceded him in death.
